Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) seeks qualified candidates for an on-ground, adjunct (part-time) position instructing Psychology courses within the Social Sciences department. We seek applicants with a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is a beautiful campus located in the inland Pacific Northwest, on the ancestral home of the Spokane Tribe, near the Spokane River. SFCC is one of two accredited community colleges that comprise the Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS). Serving about 6,000 students, SFCC endeavors to be an educational leader and a responsive partner with the community and region, offering access to relevant programs of the highest quality. We offer a large liberal arts/transfer program (approximately 75% of total enrollment) as well as state-of-the-art professional technical programs (about 25%). In addition to serving the urban and suburban population in greater Spokane, CCS provides educational services to rural communities throughout a 12,302 square mile region in Eastern Washington. This region includes all of Spokane, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry, and Pend Oreille Counties as well as portions of Lincoln County.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Psychology Instructor in the SFCC Social Sciences Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Prepare for and instruct classes on campus primarily
    ; may be opportunities for hybrid or online instruction in the future.
  • Provide availability and accessibility to students through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail accessibility and other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
  • Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but be not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluating student progress and providing clear, timely feedback.
  • Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follow established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, student safety and health issues and related administrative processes.

 

COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (Minimum Qualifications)


  • An earned Master’s degree in Psychology from an accredited institution
  • Experience equivalent to teaching one year (3 quarters or 2 semesters of college-level courses). Graduate teaching assistantships are acceptable.
  • Evidence of instructional excellence.
    • Acceptable forms of documentation may include student evaluations, peer evaluations, and/or supervisory evaluations.
  • Proficiency in classroom instructional technology and learning management system technology.
  • Demonstrated understanding and support of the role that community colleges serve in higher education, and specifically the mission, values, goals and objectives of the Community Colleges of Spokane.
  • Demonstrated competence in working with diverse student populations and an appreciation for diverse voices in the classroom.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution and the community/technical college system.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the welfare and best interest of students.
PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (Desired Qualifications)
  • Commitment to advance diversity, promote equity, and prepare students to live responsibly in an increasingly global civilization.
  • Experience equivalent to more than one year of full-time post-secondary teaching experience (graduate students are encouraged to apply).
  • Experience teaching in a variety of modalities and/or using the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success in classes composed of students with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.

 

CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the District to sponsor an H1-B visa. In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.


Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position. 
Once an applicant is chosen for an interview, they are required to complete and submit a declaration regarding sexual misconduct and investigation per state law.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. CCS reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.
