Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland (UMD) is seeking a full-time Program Manager to help update and manage the Mtech Ventures Incubator and related programs supporting technology startups and spinouts that are closely connected to the university. This Faculty Specialist (Professional Track Faculty) position is based in the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech) and will align with the Mid-Atlantic I-Corps Hub, the Maryland Innovation Extension, the xFoundry programs in the IDEA Factory, and related programs.

This is a very exciting opportunity for individuals seeking to support the innovation ecosystem at UMD and in Maryland, in the broader Mid-Atlantic region, and nationally. This individual will be involved in building exciting and impactful programs from the ground up, to help grow the next generation of deep technology startups to solve critical societal problems.

The Program Manager will have a wide-range of responsibilities to design and manage the programs and associated tasks. The position will require deliberate partnerships and collaboration with many units across campus. Mtech Ventures Incubator will feature two primary components of programming and membership: portfolio companies that join for support and access to opportunities and funding; and, mentors who join to connect with innovative startups and contribute to the university’s mission of impact. The Program Manager will design systems, events, programs, reporting processes, and guidelines to frame and operate both aspects of the program.

Education:
  • BS/BA.

Experience:
  • Minimum of two years professional experience.

Preferences:

  • Advanced STEM degree or equivalent.
  • Five or more years of professional experience.
  • Role leading and/or developing programming at an incubator, innovation center, venture firm or studio.
  • Leadership role in building or supporting startup companies or related technology commercialization activities.
  • Experience with NSF I-Corps programs and/or lean startup methodologies.
  • Experience with data management, project management, communications, grant management, evaluation, and reporting.
