Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Associate Director is a vital member of the School's frontline fundraising team and is responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of gifts of $250,000 and above from alumni and friends of the Business School.  These donors and potential donors are successful MBA alumni, parents, and friends and are leaders at top organizations around the world. The School is fortunate to have a base of dedicated and accomplished donors interested in funding top priorities including scholarship support, fellowships, faculty support, research, and facilities.

The Associate Director will serve as an important member of the major gifts team and will collaborate with fellow gift officers, senior leadership, faculty, and colleagues throughout the School, to help ensure that outreach to top-level alumni and donors is coordinated and effective. This team member will also work as a department liaison for one or two major academic centers at the Business School. This individual will meet the overall core and partnership values of teamwork, integrity, accountability, and respect.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently manages the identification, cultivation, and solicitation process for a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects. The portfolio includes donors and prospective donors in and around New York City, as well as in one or more regions outside of the tri-state area.

  • Creates, executes, and maintains a clear engagement and ask strategy for all individuals in their assigned portfolio. Portfolio management goals will we rigorous and attainable and will be created with the support of leadership and colleagues.

  • Conducts a minimum of 120 prospect meetings annually. Ask and close goals are based on the portfolio and the status of those donors.

  • Serves as the department liaison for one or more of the School’s academic research centers, by working closely with center faculty and administrative leaders. Focuses on issues related to alumni engagement and fundraising for the assigned centers. The Associate Director will help to build and execute an annual center strategy that will provide guidelines and assistance that enables the center to realize funding and engagement goals.

  • In collaboration with other members of the team and department, helps with the idea generation, planning, and execution of creative cultivation and engagement events associated with the major gifts program.

  • Performs other development-related tasks as necessary and partners with leadership, team, and department on special projects as needed.

Education:

Bachelor's degree required. Minimum 4 years related experience required.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum of four years of frontline fundraising experience or equivalent sales or marketing experience required, with a proven record of increased responsibility, outstanding relationship building, and management skills, and clear interest and experience related to building strategy, motivational teamwork, negotiations, and creative problem-solving.

The candidate will be committed to fully supporting and participating in a highly collaborative and supportive team environment while handling various task deadlines in a high-volume, high-demand department. The applicant must be creative, enterprising, persuasive, and tactful. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Some travel, evening, and weekend hours required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree preferred. Sales, or fundraising track record of closing six and seven figure gifts desired. Demonstrated commitment to higher education and advancement preferred.
