TOUGALOO COLLEGE Seeks: Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Position Summary: Tougaloo College, a historically black college, invites applications for a tenure-track
Assistant Professor in Chemistry position to begin in spring 2020. Areas of expertise include Organic
Chemistry, Biochemistry, and related disciplines. A strong potential for excellence in teaching and productive research involving undergraduate students are essential. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field and demonstrated teaching experience are required; postdoctoral research experience is preferred. Research project and specialization must relate to biochemistry, biomedical sciences, cancer research and drug discovery. Some start-up funds, release time and research support are expected to be available from
Mississippi INBRE, which is funded through the NIH and is a network of colleges and universities throughout Mississippi that is dedicated towards improving the biomedical research infrastructure in the state. The start-up fund would require 50% time devoted in research and 50% in teaching and service during the tenure of the funding. The successful candidate is expected to teach professionally and develop a nationally recognized research program in biomedical sciences, where stimulating research will be able to engage and encourage the creativity of undergraduate students.
Experience/Qualifications: A doctoral degree in Chemistry or in a field closely related to chemistry, and expertise in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry are necessary. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to develop a nationally recognized research program and teach and mentor undergraduate students.
Postdoctoral research and teaching experience at undergraduate level will be of added advantage.
