Indiana University East invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics beginning August 1, 2020. Area of specialty in Mathematics is open, as candidate qualifications will determine the scope and responsibilities of the position. Candidates with a background in actuarial sciences will receive special consideration.
The successful candidate will participate in department, school and university service activities and governance. Experience developing and teaching online courses (or a strong desire to learn) is a plus. A commitment to an active program of research and scholarship and to excellence in teaching is expected. The School of Natural Science and Mathematics offers a B.S degree in mathematics, a graduate certificate in Mathematics, and a M.A.T. in Mathematics. The B.S. program is 100% online and serves over 400 students worldwide.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities :
Primary teaching responsibility will be upper-division mathematics courses and graduate courses for the online setting. Other teaching may include service courses (statistics, finite mathematics) or other lower-level courses, depending on qualifications and departmental needs.
Manage the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school and campus academic policies.
Demonstrate the ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse populations within the university and community.
Doctorate in mathematics or a closely related field, with minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics.
Demonstrated interest in teaching a broad range of undergraduate courses, including abstract algebra, real analysis, probability and finance mathematics in both online and in-person settings.
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and student success.
