YesJob Summary
Work in the Academic Advising office as the initial contact for guests to the department. Perform receptionist duties in a positive, cheerful, professional, and enthusiastic manner. Assist with crowd management during the months with the highest intake of students. Work location and hours may vary depending on the need of the department.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Provide a warm and welcoming environment to all incoming students and guests of the Academic Advising office. Assist students in following directions on how to login to see an advisor. Effectively manage the load of students based on the number of advisors available at any particular time. Proactively notify advisors of demand of services. Monitor the purpose of visit and, if necessary, redirect students to other services as needed. Make students aware of waiting times when visiting an advisor for an appointment or as a walk-in. Refer students to campus resources. Access the department website information to provide students with quick answers to frequently asked questions.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with higher education.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of work experience in related services.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Dependable and reliable. Excellent interpersonal skills (i.e. listening skills, collaboration, negotiation). Have a cheerful disposition and enjoy working with a diverse staff and student body both over the phone and in person. Understand the functions of Student Affairs offices. Have a demonstrated ability finding information on the SLCC website. Organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
