JOB SUMMARY The Department of Psychological Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work closely with Dr. Harvey Swadlow, Principal Investigator and researchers in the lab on the recently funded NIH Project "The Role of LGN Directional Selectivity in Visual Cortical Processing." The lab focus is on the mechanisms of encoding and transmission of visual information in the thalamocortical system of awake rabbits during shifting brain states. The job involves working with a team that records, manipulates and analyzes single neuron and network activity, using a variety of electrophysiological computational and behavioral tools. The lab is committed to facilitating professional development by supporting conference travel (COVID permitting), workshops, seminars, writing, and networking. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Extracellular recording from small groups of neurons in the visual thalamocortical system of awake rabbits, data analysis, manuscript preparation, planning new experiments. APPOINTMENT TERMS Start date for this position is anticipated for December 4, 2020. The position is for an initial one-year appointment and is potentially renewable for a second year. Continuation beyond two years is contingent upon future external funding applications and satisfactory performance. Salary for this position will be determined by NIH guidelines.
