Full job description
This position will provide environmental compliance oversight for Facilities Department. This position will be responsible to ensure compliance with our several requirements related to environmental regulations and laws. These include underground storage tanks, nutrient management, pollution prevention, our dam permits, and MS4 stormwater compliance.
Duties and Tasks:
- Coordinate environmental compliance programs
- Oversee environmental budget
- Review capital and non-capital projects for environmental compliance.
- Maintain regulatory or compliance documentation.
- Monitor organizational compliance with regulations.
- Identify actions needed to bring properties or facilities into compliance with regulations.
- Management of Vehicle fleet
- Responsible for Lab Chemical Safety
- Manage environmental sustainability projects.
- Oversee all campus landscaping projects
- Develop operating strategies, plans, or procedures.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
- May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Working knowledge of environmental compliance requirements
- Working knowledge of storm sewer systems, dams and streams.
- Working knowledge of requirements by State Agencies; Dept of Environmental Quality and Dept of Conservation and Recreation
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective operations.
- Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) and of standard site, roadway, parking, drainage, and space, design features.
- Excellent communications skills both oral and written;
- Ability to analyze and interpret data; maps and construction drawings.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions and to maintain a high level of productivity
- High initiative, positive attitude and attention to detail are essential.
- Familiar with VCCS environmental requirements.
- Stormwater Program Administrator, Stormwater Inspector, and/or Stormwater Plan Reviewer Certifications.
- Certified ESC Program Administrator, ESC Inspector, and/or ESC Plan Reviewer.
- Certified Responsible Land Disturber.
- Experience using drafting software such as AutoCAD, GIS, tree management software
- Experience doing environmental related work, data analysis, or research.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- VA Class A/B UST Operator Training, OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health training.
- Experience with fleet management.
- Experience with landscaping projects.
