Job Description

Overview:Northwood Technical College is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a full-time Dean of Business, IT and Family & Consumer Services at any of our four campus locations (Ashland, New Richmond, Rice Lake, or Superior).

The Dean of Business, Information Technology, and Family & Consumer Services provides instructional leadership and administration to designated programming areas of the College. This Academic Affairs position is responsible for program oversight and planning including program compliance activities, process improvement efforts for course, program and institutional assessment, program scheduling, and new, expanded and pathways program development. The Dean develops, communicates, and monitors program metrics and benchmarks related to enrollment, retention, graduation, and career placement. The dean works collaboratively with all areas of the college to facilitate program and student success. In addition, the dean oversees and monitors program budgets and grant-related projects.

Additional responsibilities include participation in Academic Affairs-related facilities planning, engaging in regional community activities, communicating, and participating in Academic Affairs initiatives, and giving presentations to potential educational and industry partners.

The Dean of Business, Information Technology, and Family & Consumer Services supervises and coaches the Associate Dean and Academic Affairs Program Associate and may also supervise additional staff and faculty. This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

  • Follow and make improvements to processes for course, program and institutional assessment.
  • Oversee program scheduling.
  • Explore new, expanded, and pathways program development.
  • Provide program policy development and guidance, including but not limited to handbooks, compensation, mentoring, and hiring practices.
  • Develop, communicate, and monitor program metrics and benchmarks related to enrollment, retention, graduation, and career placement
  • Supervise and coach Associate Deans, Program Directors, faculty, and other staff as designated.
  • Serve on college-wide committees as assigned
  • Attend Academic Affairs Divisional Leadership Team meetings and participate on taskforces as needed.
  • Oversee and complete compliance activities/reporting for HLC and other accreditation bodies.
  • Engage in community activities representing academic program areas and the college.
  • Communicate Academic Affairs initiatives including new programming ideas college-wide.
  • Assist in planning, input and execution facilities activities related to academic affairs.
  • Participate in WTCS activities, foster relationships within WTCS (i.e. Education Directors), and communicate WTCS priorities.
  • Give presentations, provide outreach efforts, and engage with potential community partners, including K-12 connections, Advisory Committee members and business and industry partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:Degree & Experience Required:

  • Master’s degree
  • Four years related work experience
  • One year Supervisory/Leadership experience
  • Two years (four semesters) full-time post-secondary teaching, eight semesters part-time post-secondary teaching, or four years secondary education teaching combined with part-time post-secondary teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
  • Ability to contribute to a team environment while maintaining accountability and motivation in self and others
  • Strong customer service skills that focus on inclusivity, community, and continuous quality improvement
  • Problem-solving skills that employ critical thinking
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite (or similar software program) and the ability to effectively apply technology to tasks and projects
  • Experience leading projects through time management and effective delegation
  • Ability to obtain driver’s license and insurance coverage in accordance with College policy

Salary:FY24 Salary - Grade P - $95,238 / year
